This page is here to help you work out the details of your class proposal.
Whether you're a first time instructor or an old pro, review the pointers
below to figure out how to make your application process go as smoothly
as possible. Our goal when we started Sweetland Retreat was to provide
a space for all levels of instructors to have a venue in which they
could share their craft in a casual fun setting. (link to application
on the bottom of this page)
Number of students:
Our minimum number of students required in order for a workshop to run
is 4 unless previous arrangements have been made. Maximum number determined
by space needed for each student and table set up -- maximum space allows
for 12 students lecture-style.
Pricing:
We have found that our most well attended classes range in price
from $15-35. While the cost depends on many different factors and the
level of the class, this is something to keep in mind.
*How to price your class... Things to factor in: Your experience
with this craft; Your experience teaching workshops; Your travel time;
Material cost; Commission split 60/40; Length of the class divided by
minimum number of students (4) - also figure at the maximum enrollment
number; Would you take this workshop for that cost??
Commission:
Sweetland Retreat offers a competitive commission split in favor
of the instructor. 60% to the instructor and 40% to Sweetland Retreat.
Payment will be made via check at the end of the workshop.
Liability:

Uploading Photos:
Uploading photos to your application is a must or application
will not be considered. Be sure that the photos are of high quality
with good lighting and composition. Your photos should sell your class!
You must include at least one photograph of the actual project (where
applicable) for marketing purposes and so that the prospective students
can have a clear idea of what they are making. If you need to attach
more photos than the application allows, please forward to us via email.
Photography services are available upon request.
Selecting Dates:
Generally we like to book classes two months ahead of time to give plenty
of time for marketing, booking, etc. We ask that you give us two options
to choose from and we will contact you to work out a confirmation of
your class date(s).
Descriptions:
Write an exciting description that will make prospective students want
to take the class. List step by step what will be taught in the class
and describe any technical terms used- don't assume that they know what
you're talking about. Include a list of supplies are that are included
and what is needed. Be clear what the students will be walking away
with after the workshop.
Supplies:
Explain any supplies students need to bring to class and where they
can buy the supplies locally and/or explain what will be included in
supplies from you (the instructor). We do not allow instructors to
charge a separate supply fee - this must be included in the course
fee. Please keep the supply list simple and consider the level of class
you are teaching. If it is a beginner's class then it is a very good
idea to provide as much as you can for your students.
Space and Supplies available at Sweetland Retreat:
Our workshop space measures approximately: 15' X 25'
Supplies available for use: 2 Folding tables- a 6 foot and a 5 foot
length, Chairs, Outlets, small side tables for display and supply storage,
and an outdoor canopy tent for plein air workshops.
Other items of note:
Plan on showing up at Sweetland Retreat between 1/2 an hour to an hour
before your class starts. Please make special arrangements with us if
you need more time to set up.
Instructors are responsible for cleaning up the studio space after their
workshop.
We reserve the right to suggest revising any portion of your proposal.
